Let's talk maternity photos
Being pregnant is both a wonderful, privileged experience and an exhausting one. Filled with aches, nausea, frequent bathroom trips and creative ways of putting your socks on...! It is also filled with nervous excitement, those little butterfly kicks in your tummy and pure love as you watch your baby kick and roll around on the ultrasound screen.
Our bodies go through immense changes during this time so it is only understandable when we feel disconnected and uncomfortable with our new shape. Photographing yourself at this moment might feel like the last thing that you want to do! Despite this, I promise that you won't regret it.
Having a maternity shoot is an opportunity to celebrate what your body was able to do. It can feel like you're pregnant forever, but it really is only a short period of your life. A maternity shoot is a great way of seeing your pregnant body a new way. It's a chance to say, 'I know I've changed, but look at what I was able to do!' It's a chance to celebrate the very start of motherhood.
The photos I strive to take will be elegant and tasteful. You can show as little or as much skin as you feel comfortable. We will work together to find poses that you're comfortable in and that best show off your baby bump. I know that for lots of us, touching or having lots of attention on our pregnant tummy is uncomfortable, but trust me when I say that you won't regret having photos to look back on and remember your pregnancy by.
For me personally, even though I thought that they wouldn't be the kinds of photos that I would be putting up on the wall (although I do actually have some of my own maternity photos up in my house because I love them so much) I wanted a maternity shoot just for my own benefit. Something for me. A way of remembering all that I was able to do in a positive, timeless way. So that in decades to come when pregnancy feels so long ago, I could look back at the photos and remember. Remember how it felt to be pregnant. How it felt to be nesting and organising the changing table several times over. How it felt to wonder what holding my newborn baby for the first time would feel like. They are photos filled with nostalgia, and totally worth it.
No matter your pregnancy journey, whether its been easy and full of love and excitement, or really hard and filled with fear and anxiety, it's all part of your journey and that's worth documenting.
